29.04.12 Swieqi U. 1 Mdina K. 2
Match officials once again left their mark on the scoreline in a tight match between Swieqi United and Mdina Knights. Swieqi United started strong and had a number of opportunities in the first 10 minutes of the game. Mdina then took over and Swieqi struggled to keep possession. Mdina dominated most of the 1st half and took the advantage through a shot that bounced off the woodwork and into the Swieqi goal.
The second half was dictated by Swieqi United, with the men in organge creating a constant stream of attacks. Swieqi went level thanks to a great freekick by Simon Sammut. Swieqi United then had a clear penalty claim which was not given. The crowd and players were in complete shock at the controversial decision. The referee then proceeded in sending off the Swieqi coach for dissent. In the last minutes of the game the referee had no qualms in giving a penalty in favour of Imdina. The penalty was deserved but left many questioning the two weights and two measures adopted by the match officials. Mdina's only shot on goal in the second half was the penalty given, which they converted, and even though Swieqi continued to attack they could not level again.
