17.01.19 Seniors: Classy Sirens defeat Owls
A well-drilled Sirens team comfortably beat Swieqi United 5-0 in this evening's match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.
As the scoreline suggests, Sirens were in the ascendancy for most of the match, showcasing their superiority as a team in particular during the first half, when they managed to hit four well struck goals - one each from Luka Mijic, Kane Farrugia, Ide Adesina and Clive Gauci - past goalkeeper Edward Gatt, who, on each occasion, was well beaten.
In fairness, despite the result being beyond them, the Owls picked themselves up after the break and played much better football in the second half, mustering a few decent chances on target that tested opposition goalkeeper Miguel Montfort. Victor Kayode came closest to grabbing a consolation for the Orange right at the beginning of the half, but his well struck shot was parried over the bar at the death by Montfort.
However, not content with their commanding lead, Sirens emphatically sealed the win with yet another well taken strike by Adesina, thereby confirming their position at the top of the standings at the half way point of the season.
Swieqi United will look to pick themselves up from this defeat in their next match, a derby against San Gwann, this coming Sunday.
