16.01.17 U15: Swieqi United continue their top form!

Swieqi’s first weekend of 2017 started off with the senior team beating Attard 6-0, followed by a 2-0 victory for the U17s vs Fgura.  On Sunday 15 January, it was the u15s turn to make it three out of three when they faced Xghajra at 13.00 at Zebbug Ground.
The referee blew the whistle for the game to start, as Swieqi aimed to continue from where they left off in 2016 with another win.  The match started off with Xghajra being the most dangerous team, however the Swieqi defence proved to be solid from the start of the match.  It was Swieqi who took the early lead when Timmy Bonello shot from a freekick that went over the Xghajra keeper.  This was Timmy’s first goal for the club and immediately turned around to the Swieqi bench to show his excitement for scoring.  Swieqi had the chance to double their lead, but Daniele’s shot on goal, after being one on with the keeper, was saved.  The first half ended 1-0 as both teams headed to the dressing rooms.
The second half started off with Xghajra controlling most of the possession of the ball, but failing to create any chances to level the score.  However, the Swieqi defence remained strong and compact.  Moments later, it was Swieqi who recovered a ball in midfield and got the ball to Daniele who dribbled to the side of the box and passed to Sam who with a fine shot, placed the ball in the back of the net, to make the score 2-0.  Swieqi did not give up, and tried to score another but Sebastian had his shot go just out wide.  The game ended 2-0 as Swieqi players celebrated remianing first place in the league standings.
Swieqi U15s play their next game on Sunday 29th January at 14.45 at Mgarr Ground vs Zurrieq.
