07.11.16 Unlucky Swieqi fall to San Gwann

Swieqi United played some of their best football of the season but still had nothing to show for it at the end of the 90' as San Gwann managed to beat the Orange 4-2 at Sirens.

The Yellows started the brighter of the two sides and forget ahead after a mere 5 minutes with a set-piece from a corner. Swieqi responded merely 3 minutes later when Patrick Briscoe White scored from the spot. Both sides traded shots and chances and entered the half level on goals.
In the second half, Swieqi started well and were duly awarded for their efforts when Ekezie made it 2-1. Merely a few seconds later, San Gwann equalised thanks to their foreigner then a dubious third goal settled the game. An inswinging cross was looped over Sam Bartolo, hitting the crossbar and bouncing out of the area having cleared by the keeper. The assistant referee adjudged the ball to have crossed the line despite incessant protests by the Swieqi players. In stoppage time, San Gwann made it 4-2 when they caught Swieqi on the break. A harsh result for what was a magnificent performance by the orange.
