05.04.16 Qrendi beat Swieqi in ill-tempered encounter.

Qrendi grabbed a crucial three points and secured their second division status when they beat Swieqi United 3-1 at Luxol Stadium.

The Greens went into the lead after only 5 minutes when a free kick was not cleared and the ball found its way past the hapless Sam Bartolo. Swieqi did threaten on occasions and went close through Jon Briscoe White's free kicks and a good run by Dean Grech. Qrendi however doubled the lead on 25' minutes when a thunderous shot rattled the crossbar and edged over the line.
In the second half, Swieqi came out all guns blazing. On 53' minutes, Matthew Asciak's header made it 1-2 after an inch perfect free kick by Jon Briscoe White. Unfortunately, on 55' minutes, Kane Micallef was sent off for 'blasphemy' before Jon Briscoe White missed an absolute sitter when his header was well saved by Qrendi's keeper. Abner Dos Santos was then harshly sent off for a second bookable offence (this time accused of diving in the box) before Qrendi assured themsleves of victory in the 95' minute with a goal from outside of the box.
