02.04.16 Swieqi hammer hapless Hamrun
Swieqi United's Women team registered a comfortable win against Hamrun Spartans on Tuesday. In fairness, the Orange never looked like being in danger but that takes nothing away from the clinical manner in which they saw off the blues.
The Ladies were certainly in no mood for complacency as they came out all guns blazing. Kate Galea went close with two free kicks and Emma Moore threatened on several occasions. Amy Galea Gingell went agonisingly close when she fluffed a great chance having been played one on one against the keeper and Yolande Attard's shot also went narrowly wide. The breakthrough finally came on 35' minutes when Kate Galea's perfect pass allowed Emma Moore to round the keeper and calmly slot the ball into the net. Amy Galea Gingell then made sure the game was won when she scored two quick goals right before half time. Her first goal involved some neat control and a chip over the goalkeeper and her second goal was a low and powerful shot into the corner of the net.
The second half was a quieter affair with Swieqi United preferring to play on the counter. The best chance of the half fell to April Tinio who despite rounding the keeper could not conclude on target as she was thwarted by Hamrun's defenders. In the dying minutes of the game, Sammy Jo Barbara made it 4-0 after a shot from close range. The Orange next face Tarxien Rainbows!
