Last Sunday the girls in orange faced their toughest opponent, Gozo. Although the girls knew that this game would be challenging, they marched on the pitch ready to give their all to try and win the game. The Swieqi Women’s Team was cheered by over hundred supporters who came up to Gozo to give their support.

The game kicked off in very hot, sunny and windy conditions. It started off rather balanced however a hands ball in the box gave Gozo a penalty on the 11th minute mark. Maria Farrugia opened the score for Gozo.

After the goal, the girls in orange reacted well and kept up with the pressure of the game. Unfortunately they were unlucky in finding a goal before half time and went in the dressing room with 1 conceded goal.

In the second half, Swieqi came out more determined to equalize and win the game. After several attacks and tries, Emma Moore equalized for Swieqi on the 75th Minute. At this point, Swieqi did not stop trying to score more and had many chances, however failed to finish. In the last few minutes of the game Gozo’s Joselene Gafa and Maria Farrugia managed to net 2 balls  finishing the game 3-1 in favour of Gozo.

Praise must be given to the girls for their fantastic effort, concentration and organisation in facing such a tough opponent away from home. Praise is also given to the numerous supporters who chanted the team throughout the whole game!

The girls in orange finished the second round of games in 2nd Place behind the Gozitans with 25 Points. They next face Sliema Wanderers on the 8th March at Mgarr ground to kick of the third and last round of the season!
