06.01.16 Swieqi Futsal continued their fine form when they faced the challenge of Mqabba.

With the town of Mqabba being famously known for the production of fireworks, Swieqi definitely put on a splendid show and put Mqabba on the back burner.

Goalkeeper Keith Cassar Jackson was trusted in goal by the SUFC coaching staff and he put in a solid display to earn himself the Man of the Match award.

Mqabba had the first threat on goal but a lack of communication saw the chance go begging. This sprung Swieqi into action and Dylan Micallef opened the score 1-0 in the 4th minute. Swieqi had a series of good chances to build on their lead, however they had to wait till the 14th minute for their second when Boicho tapped in from close range. Dylan added his second personal goal on the 15th minute, proving his worthiness to be selected for the National Team at his age.

SUFC keeper Jackson made 3 vital saves with 4 minutes remaining and after a swift counter attacker Jamie Mangion sliced the ball across the court for Cristian Hurtado to blast home the 4th goal. With a minute remaining for half time Gabor Balan, making his SUFC debut made it 5-0.

Mqabba were truly clueless on how to deal with Swieqi's pressure and matters only got worse for them when in the 3rd minute Gabor picked out Diego to put Swieqi 6-0 up.

Swieqi had Daniel Sant to thank when he cleared an Mqabba strike off the line! However on the 5 minute Mqabba pulled back a goal making it 6-1. Swieqi took control of proceedings once more and made it 7-1 on the 8th minute thanks to Diego after good team work from Cristian.

Mqabba surged into attack and a lovely volley earned them a second goal with the scoreline now reading 7-2.

With 10 minutes remaining coach Nikolai handed a debut to Chris Wizu who was signed in the January transfer window.

Jackson continued to play a vital role saving a number of decent chances from Mqabba.

Daniel Sant had a great opportunity to add his name to the score sheet but a fine save by the Mqabba custodian denied him.

It must also be reported that Timmy Gingell must have been working on shooting skills during the festive break for there were no shots to Mars to report on.

Swieqi next take on Mdina Knights on Friday 15th January at 8pm and we urge everyone to come and support.
