Seniors suffer drubbing by ruthless Hamrun

24.01.15 Seniors suffer drubbing by ruthless Hamrun

In a one-sided match, Swieqi United succumbed to some poor defending and harsh referee calls as the Orange went down 1-6 to Hamrun Spartans.

A match which certainly was never an easy one on paper lived up to its daunting billing as Hamrun went ahead after just 10 minutes. Kenneth Ekezie did manage to hit the post in the first half but the Orange rarely threatened throughout the first interval.

Swieqi changed formation in the second half and brought on Jeremy Gatt Coleiro to sure up the midfield. Unfortunately, the game was decided in 30 seconds when Swieqi were denied a blatant foul outside of the box and from the resulting counter-attack, Hamrun were awarded a penalty sending the Swieqi bench in ruptures - a true injustice given the fact that all present at the ground witnessed this howler by the officials.

The Spartans duly converted and went on a rampage scoring another 4 goals with Swieqi's reply coming through a penalty conversion by Leontiev Konda.

All in all, a poor performance and a day to forget for the Men in Orange.
