25.02.14 Swieqi United manage to claim a priceless 3 points

Swieqi United managed to claim a priceless 3 points in their crucial encounter v Mgarr. Swieqi had a goal disallowed after just 5 minutes when Craig Debattista's header hit the crossbar and went over the line but the referee waved play on. A few minutes later, Luca Burlo' raced through only for his shot to be well parried by the Mgarr goalkeeper. A few minutes before the break, Kenneth Ekezie broke free and from close range opened the scoring for Swieqi.

No sooner had the second half commenced that Kyle Calleja pulled his hamstring rattling the Swieqi team. Thereupon, Mgarr asserted themselves and managed to equalise a couple of minutes later. Thankfully, with Calleja's replacement Wayne Galea fitting in nicely, the Orange managed to regain the lead. Omar Smeir's nifty work inside the area was too much for the Mgarr defence who brought him down. Mgarr's defender was sent-off and Abner Dos Santos duly converted from the spot. Against 10 men, Swieqi dominated proceedings and should have added to the scoreline when Abner Dos Santos and Robert Magro wasted some clear goal-scoring opportunities.

Nevertheless, it was a hard fought win and yet another important 3 points for the orange.
