09.10.13 Swieqi United continue impressive form
No sooner had Swieqi faced Kalkara on the Sunday, merely five days later were called to take on Qrendi at the same venue. Similarly to the game against Kalkara, the Orange dominated for large stretches of the game and managed to win a comfortable match 2-0. This was also the second time Swieqi were facing Qrendi (the sides had locked horns in the FA Trophy merely three weeks before).
It was once again KENNETH EKEZIE who got himself on the score-sheet. A good cross from the right managed to find the Nigerian whose powerful header was no match for the Qrendi defence. One-nil to Swieqi and a good platform had been establish for the game. Fabien Debono, who had replaced the injured Matthew Fenech, was also causing some major problems to Qrendi and was unlucky to not also get on the score sheet in the first half. He was not so forgiving in the second half when on 48 minutes, he pounced on a well taken ball from the left and his low crisp shot found its way in the back of the Qrendi net. This was FABIEN DEBONO’s second goal of the campaign. Thereupon, Swieqi managed to control the tempo of the game and should have forged further ahead on a number of occasions. Luca’ Burlo was then replaced by Chris Dalli, the former suffering a slight knock.
Chris Dalli was harshly adjudged to have fouled a Qrendi player in the Swieqi box. Despite Swieqi’s protests the referee was having none of it and awarded the whites a spot kick. Thankfully, keeper Matthew Sapiano produced an excellent save when he correctly dived to his right. The save guaranteed a comfortable ending and ensured another clean sheet.
