Convincing win for Swieqi United

08.10.13 Convincing win for Swieqi United

Swieqi United were willing to continue their good form when they entertained Kalkara at the Centenary Stadium. Once again, the Orange began on the offensive and went close to opening the score when Ekezie’s header rattled the post. Kalkara also produced their moments of danger when a free kick was blocked by the Swieqi wall and some mazy runs by their strikers caused problems in the opening twenty minutes. Swieqi were finally able to break the deadlock when KENNETH EKEZIE managed to wrong foot the Kalkara keeper and put the ball into the back of the net. The orange now began to press for that second elusive goal and were awarded on 43 minutes. Adam Wingfield’s pin point corner was met by the head of THOMAS NAUDI whose bullet header made the score 2-0.

After the half-time break, coach Debrincat made it clear that the pressure had to be maintained. Indeed Ekezie went close to making it three, when his shot came back off the post. Kalkara also hit the post when their striker was not marked and the Orange were lucky to escape unscathed. Ekezie then had a goal disallowed for offside before substitute Debono also went close on two occasions. Thereupon, the same FABIEN DEBONO made sure of the victory when he latched onto a good pass on 86 minutes and neatly placed the ball into the back of the Kalkara net. Game over and a further valuable three points for the men in orange.
