18.12.16 Swieqi U15s end 2016 on a high
Swieqi United’s U15s faced Marsaskala on Saturday 17th December at 14.45 at Mellieha Ground. Swieqi aimed to continue on last week’s victory and strengthen their lead at the top of table. The game kicked off in very cold and windy conditions.
The game started off with Swieqi defending well and with Marsaskala having many chances to score. However the Swieqi defence remained strong and kept the score 0-0. Marsaskala had the first chance of the game with a free kick which was well saved by the Swieqi keeper. Towards the end of the first half, Timothy Bonello had to leave the pitch due to an injury. The first half ended draw.
The referee blew the whistle to kick off the second half, as the wind was stronger and a few rain drops could be felt. Despite the poor weather conditions, Swieqi remained focused and worked hard. Mid way through the second half, Marsaskala had a good chance to take the lead, however the ball was cleared off the line after many attempts to score.
Five minutes before the end of the game a free kick was given to Swieqi for a foul made close to half pitch. Isaac Ruggier gave the freekick and beat the keeper to score and made the score 1-0. Swieqi were delighted to have taken the lead, despite many complaints by the Marsaskala players and bench.
The game ended 1-0, with Swieqi picking up three important points, to end 2016 on a high note.
