13.12.16 Late goal the difference between the sides
Swieqi United and Qrendi confronted eachother in the FA Trophy and it was the Greens who emerged victorious.
The match was a well-balanced encounter with both sides exchanging good passages of play throughout the opening minutes. Qrendi posed a serious danger to the Swieqi defence but the Orange defended well when needed.
In the second half, the game once again ensued on a midfield tussle although Qrendi's substitutes made a significant change to proceedings. With the game heading towards a 0-0 stalemate, a good cross from the right found Qrendi's foreigner alone and unmarked with the striker heading past the hapless Edward Gatt.
Thereupon, Swieqi through everything at Qrendi leaving the back seriously exposed. The Greens could have added a second when a powerful shot hit the post but they managed to hold on to see out the game. Congratulations to Edward Gatt who made his full debut for the Orange as well as to Stian Nilsen who made his first appearance for the club since a serious injury in September 2015!
