04.03.16 Futsal: Valletta beat spirited Swieqi
Both teams kicked off their elite round of fixtures last night when they went head to head at Corradino. Valletta surged into a 3-0 lead past the 10minute mark, however Swieqi refused to throw in the towel. A powerful shot from Fredrick Johnson from outside the box rattled the crossbar, much to the dismay of the Swieqi clan! Valletta were then awarded a free kick from which they managed to add their fourth goal
Fred got his moment of glory when he finished off brilliantly to pull a goal back for Swieqi. Karl Balzan had an outstanding performance in the Swieqi goal and pulled off a number of top notch saves. Jamie Mangion was unlucky to see a shot rebound off him and end up in the Swieqi net, putting Valletta in a 5-1 lead approaching half time. The final minute of the first half was full of action as both teams had good chances to score, however none could turn them into goals.
The second half saw Valletta managing to add two further goals in the opening minutes. However Swieqi put on a brave fight and had numerous occasions to reduce the scoreline. Valletta scored two further goals with 5 minutes left to play, however Bobo, Daniel Sant and Diego managed to pull goals back to make the final scoreline 9-4.
Swieqi next face Luxol in a derby match on Friday 11th March at 8pm at Corradino Pavillion.
