Gharghur edge Swieqi in the derby.

27.01.16 Gharghur edge Swieqi in the derby.

Gharghur moved to just one point behind league leaders Sirens as they edged Swieqi United 2-1 at the Centenary Stadium on a cold Monday night.
The game was fairly balanced in the first half although Swieqi did manage to clear the ball of the line thanks to Jean Noel Azzopardi. The Orange did try to penetrate on occasions but were met by a very solid Gharghur back line.
Four minutes after the break, Muda Fagbeja put Gharghur ahead after his low shot found the back of the net and five minutes later, Ryan Sell doubled the scoreline when he netted from close range following a defensive error in the Swieqi back line.
Swieqi did then mount a serious comeback and after going agonisingly close and having a goal disallowed for offisde, managed to score through Robert Southward following a goalmouth scramble. It was however, too little too late for Swieqi who suffered yet another defeat in the league.
