02.12.15 Swieqi cruise to victory over Qrendi
Swieqi United raked up their 3rd win out of 4 league games played last night when they saw off Qrendi's challenge with a convincing 7-3 scoreline.
Swieqi debuted Boicho Marev who was returning from an ankle injury and managed to grab a hat trick on the night.
Swieqi immediately pounded on Qrendi's goal from the get go, with Bobo and Daniel Sant both having a good chance to take an early lead. Surprisingly it was Qrendi who took the lead when Alan Spiteri chipped a ball over Karl Balzan which found the back of the net. Qrendi should have done better to build on such lead, however instead they invited Swieqi to come forward in search for the equaliser. Bobo and Andre Cianco both had good chances to draw Swieqi level and in a rare attack on Swieqi's goal, Qrendi thought they took a two-goal lead only to see their chance saved off the line by Dylan Micallef!
A great build up play by Bobo and Sant saw Daniel level matters on the 13th minute mark and this led to a flourish of chances to Swieqi which just couldn't find the back of the net! On the 18th minute mark Bobo grabbed his first of the night with a thunder shot that gave the Qrendi keeper no chance and put Swieqi 2-1. Qrendi upped their game with seconds remaining to find an equaliser before the break and Balzan had to be on high alert. However with just 12 seconds remaining, Qrendi found an equaliser after it deflected off Balzan.
The second half was all one way traffic for Swieqi who again missed numerous chances. Bobo added his second and third goal of the night in the second and 12th minute. Some great inter-play between Fredrick Johanson and Cristian Hurtado saw Fred build on Swieqi's lead 5-2. Cristian added two goals to his name when on the 16th minute and 17th minute two well taken goals sealed Swieqi's 3 points. Qrendi grabbed a third goal with seconds remaining, however this was too little too late for any chance of pegging back Swieqi.
Swieqi next face a tough test against an in-form Valletta team on Friday 11th December at 8pm at Corradino.
