25.11.15 Swieqi United bounce back in 4-0 win over Gozo
Swieqi were looking to bounce back from their disappointing loss last Thursday against Zebbug. Gozo on the other hand were searching for their first points of the season.
Swieqi got off to a dream start when Diego Gomes de Mello scored a wonder shot in the opening seconds to open the score 1-0. Swieqi dominated the opening proceedings with Daniel Sant and Diego having a number of great chances, with the latter hitting the post!
Swieqi pressed Gozo hard to capitilise on their slender lead. This led to Gozo playing defensive and barely venturing out of their own half. Such tactic seemed to have done the trick for Gozo and frustrated their openents, seeing Andre Cianco, Diego, Cristian Hurtado and Laslo all having a chance to build on their lead.
On the 17th minute, Gozo pounded on a rare attack and Karl Balzan misjudged the ball, only to be relieved to see Gozo's player hitting the post in front of an empty net.
On the stroke of half time, Dylan Micallef was presenting with a perfect opportunity to make it 2-0 to Swieqi, but his well timed shot was well saved by the Gozo custodian.
Gozo coach Gordon Camilleri seemed to manage to turn his players beliefs around in the second half since a much improved and more adventurous Gozo emerged. Karl Balzan was twice called in to clear two dangerous shots of Gozo.
Things took a turn for the worst for Swieqi when player-coach Laszlo Hajossy was red carded for a nasty kick from the back on his opponent. Reduced to 4 men, Swieqi somehow played better and Diego soon added his second goal for the night putting Swieqi 2-0 ahead.
Gozo had the chance to at least claim a goal back, but some great goalkeeping skills by Karl kept Gozo at bay. Timmy Gingell, Fredrik Johansson and Diego went close to adding a third for Swieqi.
With 5 minutes to go, Diego sealed Swieqi's win with a personal hat trick. Cristian and Daniel had a great chance to make it four, before Andre Ciancio saw his chance somehow crash off the post. Ciancio got the opportunity to add his name to the scoreboard when with one minute remaining a lovely blast from outside the box sailed into the back of the net.
Swieqi emerged rightful winners 4-0. Gozo left Corradino empty handed despite giving a good showing for themselves.
