06.10.15 A comfortable win for the Swieqi Women's Squad
Swieqi marched into the pitch with determination to grab the three points despite their draw in last week’s match against Mosta whereby they had a great build up play but failed to finish. The girls started the game by passing the ball round and created spaces however in the first few minutes still found some difficulty in getting the ball in the net. At the 30 minute mark, Swieqi player Emma Moore advanced with the ball into the box, however she was fouled and Swieqi were awarded a penalty. Kate Galea opened the score for Swieqi United with her fantastic penalty. In the last 15 minutes of the first half, the blues started gaining confidence in order to try and snatch the second goal before half-time, however the score remained 1-0.
In the second half, the Swieqi girls went out on the pitch to win! After just 10 minutes Swieqi were awarded a free-kick from outside the box and once again Kate Galea tipped it off the goalie and shot straight into the back of the net. Swieqi kept on dominating the game and after four minutes from the second goal Maria Kristina Agius received an accurate pass from Rebecca Naudi down the line, controlled the ball, dribbled Kirkop’s right back and finished nicely putting Swieqi United 3-0. Just shortly afterwards Maria Elena Grech gave a throw-in to the Swieqi striker Krista Montfort who, from outside the box, controlled and finished, securing a poker for Swieqi. The girls kept up the momentum of the game and kept on creating spaces and goal scoring opportunities however the score remained 4-0.
