Sirens beat Swieqi in entertaining encounter

01.03.15 Sirens beat Swieqi in entertaining encounter

Swieqi United locked horns with Sirens at the Sirens Stadium on Saturday in a match which saw last season's 3rd Division Champions and Runners-up face off once again.

Both teams started the match positively and there were some good exchanges in the middle of the park, however it was Swieqi who drew first blood when Jonathan Briscoe White rounded the goalkeeper to make it 1-0 Swieqi. Sirens' reaction was swift and they scored a few minutes later when a corner was not cleared and the ball was headed into the back of the net. Just before half-time, Sirens made it 2-1, when a mix-up in the box found a Sirens striker unmarked who lashed the ball into the back of the net past the hapless Mulholland.

Swieqi came out all guns blazing in the second half. They went close after a few seconds through Kenneth Ekezie and tried to force an equalizer which they did through Jonathan Briscoe White once again - who flicked the ball past the Sirens keeper at the near post. It was Sirens who would have the last laugh 5 minutes from time as a mis-kick by Mulholland led to the ball landing at the feet of a Sirens striker who duly converted from outside the box. It finished 3-2 in an absorbing match!
