10.11.13 Swieqi romp to magnificent victory
BOV 3rd Division
Date: 8th November 2013
Score: Swieqi United 3 Luqa St. Andrew's 0
Swieqi certainly lived up to their billing as a competitive team when they romped past Luqa St. Andrew's. The score was even more impressive since both clubs were tied on 15 points prior to this encounter.
The Orange certainly went out all guns blazing. Merely 2 minutes in, Jeremy Gatt Coleiro's precise run cut open the Luqa defence only for Luqa's keeper to save at point blank and deny Swieqi an opening score. Swieqi went close through Dos Santos and Naudi but could not covert their chances. Notwithstanding this fact, Swieqi kept on pressing and corner after corner resulted in continuous pressure, which was duly converetd on 25 minutes as KENNETH EKEZIE'S powerful header gave Luqa's keeper no chance. Luqa also went very close when a rasping volley was saved by Sapiano and Swieqi responded when a header went off the cross bar.
Swieqi kept up the pressure in the second half although the game became locked up in the midfield. Injuries started creeping in for the Orange with Gatt Coleiro again feeling his hamstring, and Glendon Refalo clashing with keeper Matthew Sapiano - resulting in severe back pain for Refalo. Refalo was subbed and replaced by Elton Caruana who kept up his good season form, and Gatt Coleiro was taken off and Matthew Fenech came in to deputize. Swieqi doubled the score on 69 minutes when from a corner kick, KENNETH EKEZIE's bullet header gave Luqa no chance. Swieqi were not content to rest on their laurels and when Fenech's true ball found KENNETH EKEZIE once again, the striker converted on 74 minutes and claim a much deserved hat-trick. 3-0 and that was game over.
Luqa did manage to win a penalty in the final minute when Simon Borg committed a rash foul in the box. Thankfully, keeper Matthew Sapiano guessed right, saved the penalty and prevented Luqa from getting on the scoresheet.
