Academy History

Swieqi United Football Club was established in 2009 by a group of University Students and residents and represents Is-Swieqi, Ta’ l-Ibrag and Il-Madliena (population of over 9,000 inhabitants) in the MFA 2nd Division and in the Elite Division of the MFA Futsal League. Throughout the initial years of the club’s existence, the senior’s team managed to garner respect amongst all other squads in Malta and the Committee embarked on an ambitious five-year plan which included: professionalising the administration, launching a futsal team and obtaining club premises.

In the summer of 2013, Swieqi United finally opened its own training complex in Pembroke and this paved the way to eventually launch the club’s Under 19s and entire Football Academy. The Academy currently caters for all sectors and categories, is expertly managed by two licensed Youth Administrators and is overseen by UEFA Licensed Head Coach: Andrea Vella.

SUFC has in the last seven years built a professional club thanks to its adoption of a positive and sustainable approach to football. The Club is managed by an executive committee of young professionals who love the game and strongly believe that sport is essential for personal and societal development.  The SUFC executive committee has invested time and resources in establishing solid structures; a strong pool of coaches; and a football mentality that is based on education, sportsmanship and respect.
